2017 is election year in Germany, and the battle for votes will be fought online too. My local Grüne party branch had a website that dated from 2011 and was based on Django CMS that no one in the office knew how to use, and running on a server with outdated installations of PHP and MySQL.
The task: to design a new website based on WordPress, transfer the 2000+ pieces of content from the old site, and choose a new server package – and manage the whole migration. I led this project, coordinating dozens of meetings with a committee of volunteers who helped me handle administration. In early May 2017 we were finally done, and the branch now has a website that’s easier to use, more secure and more future proof.
